FIA UB Development Plan in the Field of International Cooperation, Facilities, and Student Affairs

For approximately one week from late April to early May 2015, the Dean of FIA UB led a small team to explore collaboration with several leading campuses in the United States. The small team consists of the Dean Prof. Dr. Bambang Supriyono, Chair of the Master of Business Administration Study Program, Dr. Kusdi Raharjo, and Head of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Laboratory Brillyanes Sanawiri, MBA. Yesterday, Saturday (9/5), the PSIK Public Relations Team had the opportunity to chat with the Dean about the results of his visit to the United States. The following is the presentation along with plans for the future development of FIA UB.

In terms of the Business Model Competition which has been held twice by the Department of Business Administration, starting from next year's edition, the winner of the Business Model Competition held by FIA UB at the Southeast Asia level will automatically receive an invitation to compete in the International Business Model Competition. This world-class annual event is held alternately by the three pioneer campuses, namely Brigham Young University, Harvard University and Stanford University. Coincidentally, for the 2016 edition, Harvard University was the host. This collaboration will certainly improve the quality of students and raise the name of FIA UB in the international world.

Then, the team led by the Dean has also collaborated with Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in organizing the Double Degree-Fast Track program for Bachelor of Business Administration and Public Administration students. Through this program, in the final semester at undergraduate level, students will study at MTSU for one year, so that at the end of the study period students will receive a bachelor's degree from FIA UB plus international insight. After that, the student will immediately continue his studies at the Master's level for one year at MTSU. Then, in the following year, the student will return to his homeland and complete his master's studies (thesis writing) at FIA UB. At the end of the study period, the student will receive a Master's degree from MTSU. For interested students, both campuses have agreed to provide scholarships worth up to US$ 16,000 with the requirement of achieving a provisional GPA equal to or above 3.75 and having good English language skills.

The third collaboration established by FIA UB is the implementation of a Double Degree for the Master of Business Administration program between FIA UB and Murray State University (MSU). Similar to the Double Degree program which is established between the Master of Public Administration program and several leading campuses in Japan, this program also opens up opportunities for students to obtain two Master's degrees at once, one each from UB and MSU. In this way, the quality of the graduates produced will be recognized both domestically and abroad.

Meanwhile, related to the construction of facilities and infrastructure, FIA UB will start construction of a new 12-story building in June or July 2015. The building will contain all academic and non-academic facilities for the entire FIA UB academic community, starting from a canteen with 10 slots. tenants, minimarket and photocopying service center, rooms for LoF FIA UB as a center for student activities, and classrooms. Specifically for classrooms, it is planned that the top five floors will be used for classrooms with 10 rooms on each floor. Apart from that, a vehicle parking area will also be built on the ground floor. This new building is planned to be completed within three years.

Finally, the Dean expressed his commitment to support and encourage the organization of student activities as a means of developing student soft skills. The Dean really understands that education is not only hard skills through knowledge learned in the classroom, but also soft skills that students absolutely must have to achieve success in the future. In 2014, there were 13 LoFs with 251 activities realized. For 2015, there were 17 LoFs that submitted 578 activity proposals. The Dean through Assistant Dean III is committed to supporting all planned activities, of course by paying attention to the applicable regulations. The Dean also conveyed to us that there was no intention at all from the leadership of FIA UB not to approve student activity plans as long as the activities were carried out in academic corridors that provided maximum benefits for students. However, it is the obligation of the Dean and all faculty leaders as well as lecturers and staff to produce graduates who are capable in the fields of hard skills and soft skills as desired by the students' parents. And the Dean believes that in the future this obligation will be held accountable to parents and before Allah SWT.

This is some of the information conveyed by the Dean at yesterday's meeting. FIA UB always adheres to the vision and mission to produce world-class leaders in the fields of public administration and business administration. (ALA/DEC/FIA)
