\nBanyak orang \u2014 termasuk dan terutama pemerintah \u2014 masih memandang perpustakaan semata sebagai tempat membaca dan meminjam buku. Hal paling penting dari setiap jenis perpustakaan adalah apa yang bisa dilakukan oleh manusia di dalamnya. Buku hanya alat. Perkakas.<\/p>\n

Jika sekadar perkara buku, semua orang berduit bisa memiliki perpustakaan di rumah masing-masing. Tetapi, memiliki perpustakaan rumah, selengkap apa pun, tidak akan membuat anda bertemu dengan orang baru setiap hari di ruang baca anda.<\/span><\/p>\n

FMRC FIA UB adalah tempat untuk belajar dan melakukan kerja-kerja bersama yang setara, partisipatif, dan demokratis. Setiap saat kita bisa membaca di Twitter, Facebook, atau di manapun di Internet orang-orang cerdas tidak lelah melontarkan ide-ide mereka mengenai hal-hal besar atau, misalnya, gerakan melawan kekuasaan negara yang tidak adil. Tetapi, salah satu persoalan terbesar kita adalah tidak terbiasa mengerjakan hal-hal kecil bersama \u2014 sehingga terlalu sulit untuk bisa melakukan satu hal besar bersama-sama. Lupakan saja dulu revolusi!<\/p>\n

Salah satu fungsi FMRC FIA UB adalah menjadi ruang publik alternatif di mana kita bisa berlatih mengerjakan hal-hal kecil bersama.<\/p>\n

Selamat datang para mahasiswa baru, jaya selalu para Sivitas Akademik dan Alumni FIA UB!<\/p>\n

“..But libraries are about freedom. Freedom to read, freedom of ideas, freedom of communication. They are about education (which is not a process that finishes the day we leave school or university), about entertainment, about making safe spaces, and about access to information.<\/p>\n

I worry that here in the 21st century people misunderstand what libraries are and the purpose of them. If you perceive a library as a shelf of books, it may seem antiquated or outdated in a world in which most, but not all, books in print exist digitally. But that is to miss the point fundamentally.<\/p>\n

I think it has to do with nature of information. Information has value, and the right information has enormous value. For all of human history, we have lived in a time of information scarcity, and having the needed information was always important, and always worth something: when to plant crops, where to find things, maps and histories and stories \u2013 they were always good for a meal and company. Information was a valuable thing, and those who had it or could obtain it could charge for that service.”<\/p>\n
