The Politics of local Government
Local government has during the 1980s found itself buffeted and challenged by a range of forces including public expenditure constraints, economic restructuring, increased politicisation and changed public perceptions. Local government has become a focus for some wider conflicts between Left and Right as well as an arena for political competition between business, trade union, environmental, community action, women"s and ethnic minority groups.
