Southeast Asian Affairs 2005
The year 2004 was a relatively good one for southeast Asia on both economic and political fronts. The region experienced robust growth of 6.3 percent, driven by economic rebounds in the United States, Japan, and the European Union and the rapid economic expansion of China. It was also a year in which elections and political transitions took place in a number countries. They were on the whole positive for the region and in most cases generated hopes for a better future.
